 What We Do

Power vinyasa yoga combines traditional Hatha Yoga asanas (poses) into a flowing physically challenging work out for the mind, body and spirit. The focus is on letting go, breathing, moving, sweating and respecting your limitations. Done to its fullest, this practice can be very challenging, but is presented in a way that can be modified to suit all levels and abilities. This practice produces dramatic results because it is a whole body system - every single muscle is used in strength and balance so it ignites the metabolic furnace. You don’t need great flexibility to practice-the main goal is to build and maintain physical and spiritual vitality, not to wrap your legs behind your head! This practice offers the possibility of complete personal transformation if you are seeking change - come with an open heart and a willingness to let go.

Satori Yoga teaches power vinyasa yoga in the tradition of Baron Baptiste. To learn more about Baptiste Power Vinyasa yoga, visit www.baronbaptiste.com.

What is yoga?

Yoga is a system designed to improve the body, understand the mind and free the spirit. Yogis tend to be more flexible, stronger, more energetic, thinner and more youthful than people who don't do yoga. What you see on the outside is a reflection of what's happening on the inside. With every practice, you are strengthening and calming the nervous system; increasing blood flow to internal organs and bringing more oxygen to your cells; clearing the mental clutter that can wreck your life, allowing you to see things more clearly. You are cultivating spiritual muscles in a way that can make you happier, less anxious, more at peace. (For more information about yoga, see our FAQ page)

Satori

A basic definition of satori is a spiritual awakening, often coming suddenly.

In his book "A New Earth", Eckhart Tolle describes satori:

"Satori is a moment of Presence, a brief stepping out of the voice in your head, the thought processes, and their reflection in the body as emotion. It is the arising of inner spaciousness where before there was the clutter of thought and the turmoil of emotion."

Through the practice of yoga we can begin to discover what it is to be truly present, to find stillness and ease in each moment. We use the practice, both on and off the mat, to discover our ability to be fully present under any circumstances.
